The beginning tells the reader - hold on - this is going to be a wild ride. Several pages into the book you discover the ride slows down and is a bit predictable. You have the boy, the son of a mob leader, and the girlfriend - the neighborhood sweetheart full of innocence. The son, Antonio has all these bottled up feelings, but he's the mobster's son so he's conflicted ... or maybe that's confused. The old should I or shouldn't I routine. The book scripts over the deeper side of getting to know anyone - it just plows on without a care. I wanted the care part and missed it. The girl, Megan, is a typical love-sick dumb teenager. She's really dumb at times - so much so you want to reach into the book an smack her. Good old Antonio, the handsome, muscular heartthrob is anything but. He has all these hidden feelings you want to know more about and never receive. You have Megan's father, the all protective hands-off protector with a reason you only hear about when it doesn't matter and Antonio's father who we never get to meet or understand. Part of the mob theme is right on and most miss by a mile. All in all, it was like a first draft that was hurried through without giving much thought to detail ... the kind of detail us greedy readers beg for and leave unhappy when unsatisfied. Mobster's Girl was disappointing. I wanted more from everyone.

Mobster’s Girl (Mobster’s #1)
By Amy Rachiele
4/5 stars

Antonio is the son of the Palmetto, New Jersey mob boss. He has watched Megan from afar for quite a few years. But according to his dad, she was off limits. He wasn’t ever supposed to mess with her or become involved with her. But that decree hasn’t stopped his wanting. It’s gotten to the point that he just can’t help himself from trying to get to know her.

Megan is the daughter of Irish immigrants, along with her sister, who have kept mostly to themselves in the Italian filled town, with the exception of another Irish family from a town away. Her parents are very strict and she isn’t allowed to do too much outside of school, church and interacting with the other Irish family. But she was always specifically told to stay away from Antonio Delisi Jr. because he had the devil in him.

Neither can help who they were born to or the circumstances to which they were born. They can’t help the attraction that they have or the wanting they feel to be together. But they want to find away and have to convince 2 sets of parents that this relationship would be good. Of course, when trouble comes knocking on the mob’s door, it causes problems for the young kids and their budding relationship.

I liked this book but there were a couple things that got on my nerves. There needed to be some sort of separation between the paragraphs when there was a major scene change. For example, in one paragraph they just started kissing by the docks and in the very next paragraph, it was the next day. There were several times I had to reread the last part of the previous paragraph to make sure I didn’t miss the transition in time.
I thought this was a great story with a wonderful plot however it does end with a cliffhanger which takes a little bit away from the story for me. This book is about two teens who like from afar. Megan's family wants her to stay away from the bad mob son who truly has adored her since they were young. Megan finds him hard to walk away from. This was a lovely story of young love and all they have to deal with to be together. The author throws in some major twists that you will not see coming. The characters are adorable, the language is true mob so be prepare for some bad talking. I think it adds to the story but some might not care for it. Antonio is adorable in how he loves from afar. These two young people get their hearts broken and you will feel their pain. I do not want to give the ending away but these two will have to do some major foot work to find their HEA.

Robert Burton did a wonderful job he really sounds very mob like and brought the characters to life for me. He voice is strong and clear, his character voices were great. There are no breaks just a clear audio that you will enjoy. His male voices were just as good as his female voices. I could really feel the emotions of the different characters.

Cheyenne Madison as a narrator just didn't do it for me. It was a clear audio with no breaks but it sounded like she was just reading. Her different voices sounded close to others. I didn't care for her male voices at all. I just didn't feel the emotions the character where going through.

I loved the two different narrator idea, however I think the female should have done the female voices at least all of Megan's talking. With Robert doing all the males however his female voices were great. The author really throw me on a major twist which will leave you with you mouth hung open. I didn't care for the cliffhanger and I didn't enjoy it enough to buy the next audio only to have it most likely end with another cliffhanger. The story and plot is great I really did enjoy it. I do hope the author picks a different lady to narrator. I know many will enjoy this just be prepared to buy the next book to find out just what happens. I loved the different characters they add so much to the story. I didn't care to much for Megan's mother I just do not understand what her problem was. It is almost like she thinks she is better than anyone else. I think this is the only one I didn't care for. Just wait until you see the twists it will blow your mind.
