A love-'em and leave-'em cowboy was not what Nina Cakes wanted when she asked for a muscular man to help her move her heiloom bed. After all, it was a cowboy who had gotten her sister into trouble, and no handsome rancher, not even a notorious Jefferson brother named Navarro would make Nina forget why she'd come to Lonely Hearts Station, to save her sister's good name. Staid, ordinary, respectable, Nina was a librarian on a mission, and it would take more than sweet talking, teasing grins and world shaking kisses to tempt her onto the wild side. She'd settle for nothing less than lassoing his untamed heart.
There were too many people in this book,(family of six boys grown to men, all living together, still living like teens) and too many sub plots (problems with sister, villain that doesn't seem to fit, too many unconnected pieces) that were left hanging. The Hero had to leave his entire family and the Heroine left her sister. Family is important. Not to give too much away but they should not have tried to put so much in one book, it left me feeling unfinished even when the H and h got married and started their own ranch, far from their family and her pregnant sister. I don't recommend it unless you have the entire series and can read for a week because by next installment you won't be able to get all the pieces together.

GOOD READ. Well written, unusual characters reminiscent of old-style westerns, great family theme, zany supporting cast, funny situations, sassy dialogue, and a sweet, feisty romance. HOWEVER, the warring salons and sexists antics can be a little exasperating.

THE STORY revolves around independent, upstanding librarian Nina Cakes, and cowboy twin, Navarro Jefferson. Nina's sister, Valentine, accepted a year's salary to work in a hair salon. But after one night with Last Jefferson on the Cakes family's "charmed" heirloom bed, Valentine is pregnant.

As the story unfolds, Nina arrives to reclaim the heirloom bed and to reinforce her sister's quest for support from Last Jefferson, who can't remember THAT night. Complication arise when the salon owner seizes the bed in compensation for Valentine's pay advance and plans to use it in a rodeo money-making scheme. While trying to come up with a plan to rescue the bed, Navarro and Nina sass, kiss, argue, and try to ignore the sparks between them. Things get even wackier when they both come up with the same plan, while trying to stop the other one from carrying it out (bpl).

OVERALL, appealing, feisty, comic storyline. Writing style has a yesteryear country-feel which takes a little getting used to. Recommend you start the series at the beginning. COWBOYS BY THE DOZEN series includes Frisco Joe's Fiancée, Laredo's Sassy Sweetheart, Ranger's Wild Woman, Tex Times Ten, Fannin's Flame, Navarro or Not, Catching Calhoun, Archer's Angels, Belonging to Bandera, Crockett's Seduction, Last's Temptation, and Mason's Marriage.

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, and E. Palfrey. For sweet, funny, heart-touching romances with great descriptive imagery try Susan Fox and Cara Colter.
